Cholo, my partner of 13 years, has always had sparse eyebrows. It has always been a point of frustration for him. Since day one of our relationship, I’ve have always seen him fill in his brows. So, for his birthday or for Christmas, I always buy him eyebrow pencils.

The past few years, there has been a boom in Microblading here in Manila. And Cholo has noticed this trend on Facebook. Not to the point that he became obsessed with it, but he definitely toyed with the idea of getting his brows done.

Until one day in July, he had convinced himself that it was time to “go under the knife”.  He asked me if I knew anyone who was GOOD in doing microblading. Fortunately I did. That was his cue.

A friend and colleague of mine, Andy Pasion, is a Master in Eyebrow Embroidery. We used to work together in fashion shows until he decided to concentrate on a different field of the beauty industry – Eyebrow Embroidery. Andy is an award-winning eyebrow “designer”. He currently trains those who want to learn the craft and offers masterclasses to those who want to seek further knowledge.

The procedure that Andy did on Cholo took a little over two hours. Do check the short video above to see the process.

Cholo was very happy to see the finished look. I was actually able to see the change in his personality. A subtle hint of added confidence.

The over all eyebrow design that Andy  created was very natural. He matched the color of the eyebrow to Cholo’s hair. Andy created individual strokes and added some shading for a more masculine effect.

Before the start of the microbalding process, Andy goes through a checklist. he asks about medical issues, medicines you are currently taking, allergy to certain medications. The materials used are all new. The blade and needle are removed from the packaging in front of you. The ink used is cosmetic grade and is imported from Germany.

 

After the procedure, Cholo was instructed by Andy not to wet his brows nor wear any cosmetics on them for at least 10 days. He was also told not to worry if his brows appear darker, it’s natural because the skin is “healing”, plus he was told not “pick” at the scabbing to avoid removing the “ink”. Cholo was given an ointment for aftercare.
