Let’s Get To Know Beni – The Traditional Rouge Of Japan.

Beni first came into my conciousness when I saw this featured on a now defunct TV show on NHK World called “Begin Japanology” which was hosted by Peter Barakan. This particular episode was about Japanese Beauty culture. I blogged about this a few years ago, here’s the link to that if you are interested to see more: https://tortorre.me/2016/08/26/japanese-makeup-culture/.

I had no idea back then if Beni was easily available, so I just put it at the back of my mind. Mind you this as in 2016 and information was really not accessible as they are today.

Sometime in 2019, after my visit to the brush festival, I was planning my 2020 Fude Matrusir trip and was interested in couplig it with a side trip to Tokyo. It was only after I goggled “Makeup in Tokyo” and “Makeup Museums in Tokyo”, I bumped into the main website of The Beni Museum. After briefly scrolling through the main landing page – I knew I had to visit.

I am mighty glad that after three years, I made it to  The Beni Museum and was finally able to experience Beni for my self.
