Making “Ryan” of #OnlyWeKnow.
Ryan who was played by @dongdantes had 4 looks in the film.
His main look was a bearded look. He sported this well into the film. It was a great physical representation of his grief, his sadness, his detachment to the world. Just coasting by.
This was also the most challenging look to create because the beard had to be attached every time it was called for. And to anyone who has grown a beard, you know how itchy it can be. Not to mention the glue. Kudos to Dong for managing the discomfort of wearing a beard for HOURS on end. A true testament on how much Dong loves his craft. God knows kung gaano ka daming buhok ang na laps nya sa film na to. 😅
What made me so nervous for this look was the smoking scenes. We all know what embers can do to beards. But it was all good. 😉
Beards have a life of their own. When it gets hot and humid, it increases in volume because of the water in the air. And then when there’s static / ozone in the air it becomes frizzy. The changes in weather drove me nuts. 😂
Huge thank you to my bff @natyordz for shipping some strands from the US. Big life saver! And to mama @reyarciaga for being such a helpful colleague throughout production.
Ryan had two throw back looks.
One was his wedding to Sofia (played by the Amazing @maxcollinsofficial ). Rey and I had to source a wig/toupee last minute because Ryan had to have a different look to show the passage of time. You’ll see this on the big wedding photos at Ryan’s sala.
The second was during the climactic scene of Sofia. Dong wore a bespoke handmade wig/toupee made by @laorodriguez_official Rodriguez. 🙌🏽 😘 Rey had to cut it into a casual style to fit the scene and the wardrobe. A 90’s kind of a vibe.
And the final look was his clean look. Which signifies a new outlook in the story.
For Dong’s base makeup, I wanted it to look like skin. I made it a little dewy so that it catches the light every now and then especially when shot under moody lighting.
Thank you so much Dong for giving me the opportunity to create Ryan with you. This project will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you @ppl_pao, you are a blessing.
And those are the things I can remember at the top of my head, the rest for sure are listed on the continuity folder currently in storage because I’m moving houses. 😉
Thank you too direk @ayrin for your vision and guidance. Cheers to more meaningful films direk!
Much love to you ma’am @charo. It was a pleasure to get to know you and to watch you. Sending Tight hugs your way.
This was shot in a course of 14 days in Manila, Tagaytay, Cavite, Antipolo, and Rizal.
I wish I took more pictures.
