Fude Matsuri 2023

After three long years, Fude Matsuri is finally back!

Come walk with me as I make my way to the festival grounds from Hiroshima City!  We will meander through the sleepy town of Kumano. We will walk through quiet streets, visit various makeup brush companies and of course join in on the celebration at the Brush Festival.

This is the 89th year that Fude Matsuri is celebrated. The past three years, Fude Matsuri was still celebrated but it was scaled down because of Covid. So to be here after the pandemic is a very joyous celebration not only by Fude lovers but by the entire Fude community.

My Bus route:

Took Bus 41-13 bound for Miyagasako-Danchi-iriguchi from Showamachi, the closest bus stop near my lodging. I went down at Kumano Eigyosho. If you want to proceed to Fudenosato Kobo or Sakakiyama Shrine, go down at Kita-kenei Jutaku-mae and walk from there.

Other alternative bus routes:

From Hiroshima Station to Sakakiyama Shrine take: Bus 40-12 bound for Kumano Hagiwara Shako-mae and go down in Nakamizo (https://maps.app.goo.gl/wmLqE4irkTqsQKcSA) From Yano Station to Sakakiyama Shrine take the same bus 40-12 or Bus 3-2. Go down at Nakamizo. Bus no 40-13 passes by Yano Station, this is the bus you’ll take if you want to go to the brush museum, Fudenosato Kobo, first. Go down at Kumano Nakasuji.
