No Makeup Look for Castings

Usually for casting calls, it’s advised to wear light makeup because the casting agent and advertising agencies want to see a talent in his / her natural state. Often times, some models go to casting calls with heavy makeup on; to the point that they don’t match their photos . Unfortunately they get passed on because of this.

The reason why you should come to a casting call “au naturel” is because the creative head will “see” if you’d be able to fill in the character “acting” wise. Styling, hair and makeup will come after to help bring that character to life.

Here’s a short video on how I create a makeup look when I am called in for a casting call.

This only happens once in a blue moon.

50’s Inspired Make-up Look

I was living with my grandmother in our humble little apartment when I was 21. She was half paralyzed and suffered from breast cancer. She spent most of her time watching movies from the 50’s.

She’d watched them over and over.

There were times I would watch a film with her or I’ll be doing something else when I’d suddenly hear Nat King Cole’s voice sail through our living room, she’s watching “An Affair To Remember” again for the nth time. So I guess, in part, watching these films has lead me to appreciate the “look” of that era. Glamorous curls, even skin, that daring red lip, and that flicked eyeliner.

I always incorporate a few elements of the 50’s make-up look when I do makeup. Usually it’s the eyeliner.

This video is a reflection of that. It’s my modern approach. Dewy skin, little contours here and there, a little golden hue of bronzer, a pop of color on the cheeks and a pink lip. And eyeliner of course.

~

I forgot to mention that prior to filming I already prepped my skin with my regular skin care regimen. I first cleansed my skin with Shisiedo Men Cleansing Foam, to remove excess oil from my skin. I then toned my skin using VMV Hypoallergenics Superskin 3 toner. I followed that with a minute amount of VMV Hypoallergenics Hydrabalance moisturizer all over my face. I finished it off by applying VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum. (To read more about my blog about favorite my skin care products, please click here.)

Skin Care 101: Always Use Sunscreen

Sun damage is one of the primary causes of photoaging in skin. Leading to wrinkles, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Let’s avoid these by wearing sunscreen everyday based on your current life style.

Makeup 101: Spot Concealing

Here’s a short video on how I spot conceal a blemish.

Products used:

VMV Hypoallergenics Red Better Spot Corrector.

This is a non-drying acne balm that tones down redness and fights against inflammation. Using this product doesn’t make my blemish turn dark, which by the way is an indication that it got burnt. Remember that it is easier to cover a blemish that is red than a blemish that has turned into a scab.

To read more about this product click here.

Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage in SC4.

SC4 works for medium to golden skin tones like mine. Mixing the two shades together lets me attain the right shade for my skin tone. I have used this product for years; lasts quite a long time too. You only need to use very little of this product.

To read more about this product click here.

Makeup Designory’s Loose Powder in Desert.

I love the yellow tone of this loose powder. It doesn’t brighten the camouflage nor adds any “gray” tone to the skin, unlike when you use translucent powder. I use the powder in it’s true color. When I loose my tan or work on a client, I mix desert with some translucent powder to “lighten” it while keeping the yellow tone of the powder.

Beau-Temps Medium Sized Shadow Brush

I got this medium size shadow brush in some small beauty store near Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam years ago. I could not find a link on the internet for it. I use natural hair brushes when spot correcting. I only get to pick up a little product from the pan, and it’s great for stippling as well.

Coastal Scents Blending Brush

The brushed I used for the loose powder was one is a set of 22 brushes that I bought from coastalscents.com. I use it for eye shadow or for any powdered product. Do take note, the Coastal Scents go on sale every so often. Like 50% off. Click here for the link to the brush set.

Under Eye Care 101: Use Eye Serum

The skin under the eyes is considerably thinner than that from the rest of the body. That’s why signs of aging appear earlier under the eye area than in other parts of the face. Using an eye serum daily, helps in reducing fine lines, puffiness and discoloration.

I can skip moisturizer, but I never skip using eye serum.

In this short video, I am showing you a simple application process that doesn’t take too much of my time.

I am seen here using VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum. I swear by this product. This is the only eye serum in the market that did not give me milia.

For those in the Philippines you can check it out at vmvhypoallergenics.ph.

The rest of the world, check it out at www.vmvhypoallergenics.com.

Skin Care 101: Always Moisturize

Always moisturize. It is the key to healthier and younger looking skin.

There are many women who skip this process because of many issues. One issue I always hear is that, it makes their skin “oily”. Do take note, that no matter what you put on your skin, if you are oily, you will always be oily. Use the appropriate moisturizer for your skin type.

Moisturizer acts by nourishing the skin. As a makeup artist, let me say, it is easier to work with skin that has been prepared and hydrated. Moisturizer restores the water level in your skin and creates a protective barrier from make up or from harmful oxidizing agents from the environment.

I practice what I preach and try to live by example. This way my clients can see for themselves what moisturizer can do.

In this short video, I am showing you a simple application process that doesn’t take too much of my time.
